EASTERN STATES CLASSIC

     Wyoming Seminary (PA)  the fourth-ranked  team in the nation dominated the field of about 150 teams at the 13th annual Eastern States Classic as they tallied 262 points and crowned three champions, including former Greene HS New York State champion Christian Dietrich at 182 pounds. Division I team champion Hilton HS finished in second place with 67.5, followed by Ward Melville (67). Hilton was paced by two-time state champion Yianni Diakomihalis (21-0, 150-3 career) at 120 and Ward Melville had three-time state winner Nick Piccininni (22-0, 208-3) in the 126-pound class. Reigning state champions that won Eastern titles were freshman Jacori Teemer (18-0, 98-2) of Long Beach at 106, Matteo DeVincenzo (20-0) of Port Jefferson who edged 2013 state winner Wantagh's Kyle Quinn (15-1), 2-1, with a last second takedown and emerged with a 2-1 victory at 113 pounds. Other defending champions were Syosset sophomore Vito Arujau (21-0, 115-1)  who coasted to the 132-pound crown and Nathanael Rose (23-0) of Eagle Academy at 195. Long Island winners included; two-time state placer Tommy Dutton (24-0, 241-27) of Rocky Point  who handled Division II titlist Tristan Rifanburg of Norwich, 10-3, at 145, state runner-up Jakob Restrepo (24-0) of Sachem East edged Frank Garcia (Norwich), 4-3, at 152, and John Glenn junior Edwin Rubio (22-0) won an overtime decision to win the 285-pound championship.
