MAT NOTES:

Sayville (11-5) upended Bay Shore (16-4), 39-24, in the opening round of the Suffolk County Dual Meet Championships held before a packed gym at Brentwood HS. The Golden Flashes were paced Matt Reina (126) and sophomore Leo Mongiello (26-1), as both recorded first period falls.

Other standouts were freshman AJ LaBella (102), all-county Robert Walker (110), who used a barrage of takedowns in his win  and tough James Miller at 152 pounds. That trio all posted solid major decisions that help propel the League VI dual champions past a talented Bay Shore team, that had previously defeated Sayville in a December dual meet.

The LoPresti twins both had solid decisions, Ken with an exciting 7-6 verdict at 160 and Cody who clamped his opponent at the 3:16 mark in the 172-pound bout. Other Sayville winners were junior Dan Holahan (138) and eighth-grader Javen Taff (189), both recorded 5-3 decisions in their respective matches.
